One of the 36 individuals the Orange County Board of Supervisors selected for the Ninth Annual Volunteer Recognition was
our very own president Laura Miller. Congratulations Laura! This award is a celebration of the accomplishments and contributions
of volunteers who have partnered with County of Orange agencies and departments in serving local residents.
This partnership demonstrates the importance of citizen participation in building strong, healthy communities.
Laura was recognized for her strong leadership qualities and intense commitment.
In her role as the Friends Board president, she has initiated an aggressive campaign to re-energize the organization.
Laura has been instrumental in the development of new strategic and business plans that guide the direction of the Friends membership.
She implemented an innovative committee structure that provides support for READ/Orange County staff and creates a sense of ownership for the program's volunteers.
In addition, she has enhanced the effectiveness of Friends Board members through training programs in public speaking and marketing.
She has also served on the Friends Recognition Activities Committee.
As board president, Laura brings talent, expertise and enthusiasm to the Friends of READ/Orange County.
She provides outstanding leadership for a professional group of individuals, and dedicates countless hours to improving literacy in Orange County.

The Friends are a 501c3 not-for-profit organization supporting the READ/OC adult literacy program.
All members are welcome to attend the Friends board meeting on the third Thursday of every month at the OCPL headquarters.
