Resource Development Committee
The goal of the Fundraising Committee is to achieve the ability to financially sustain the Friends organization by developing the ways and means to raise the necessary funds to support the annual budgeted activities. We will develop both small and large fundraising events and activities targeted at monies from new sources other than those being worked by the Outreach Coordinator of READ/Orange County in order to diversify our funding sources. If you have some fundraising ideas that work, please contact Karen Ruhl, Chairman of the Fundraising Committee, at 714-731-0564 or e-mail her.
Advocacy Committee
We need you!! Do you go online at least once a day? Do you have an e-mail address? Do you want to see more community and political support for adult literacy services? If you answered yes to any of these questions then WE NEED YOU! The advocacy committee is looking to build our Advocacy Alerts database. Advocacy Alerts are sent out on an average of 1 - 2 per month. They are usually calls to action- phoning your legislator about a new bill that s/he should support or signing a national petition that will be presented to the House of Representatives. Most alerts take less than 5 minutes to complete, and could mean the difference between a yes vote and a no vote. Please consider joining us, e-mail to be added to the list. Your e-mail will only be used for the Advocacy Alerts and won't be traded or sold.
Membership Committee
Are you a people person? Do you enjoy talking to people and discovering more about their special interests and abilities? Then the Membership Committee may be for you. The MC works to reach out to potential volunteers and match their talents and interests with the appropriate FROC committee. It also supports the entire FROC organization as the "human resources" arm, developing guidelines and clarifying member responsibilities. Please join us at our next meeting to help support our volunteer organization! The MC meets the 3rd Thursday of even months at 6:30 PM at READ/OC headquarters. For more information about this committee, please contact Elizabeth Weldon by e-mail.
Recognition Activities Committee
Every READ/Orange County volunteer is crucial to the success of the program, and we want every volunteer to know their time and commitment is valued. The role of the Recognition Activities Committee is to organize events such as the annual picnic and Spring Fling to show our ongoing appreciation. These are family events filled with food, games, crafts and lots of fun. If you would like to share in the fun of planning and hosting these events, please contact Julie Cottle by e-mail for more information. The monthly meetings are held the first Wednesday at 6:30 PM in Conference Room A at the OCPL headquarters.
