"The Newsletter of READ Orange County" Number 2 - September 2006

Four all who reed and right
- the written English language is not easy

We'll begin with a box and the plural is boxes;
But the plural of ox became oxen not oxes.

One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese,
Yet the plural of moose should never be meese.

You may find a lone mouse or a nest full of mice;
Yet the plural of house is houses, not hice.  smiley face

MORE READ/OC PROGRAM NEWS

Your eyes and ears, please.

We greatly appreciate any newspaper articles about the READ/Orange County program, our tutors, learners, and any article that concerns literacy in Orange County. Send them to headquarters. Letters were sent to 27 radio stations in Southern California requesting that they air Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about literacy and READ/OC. Both KOST-FM 103.5 and KSBR-FM 88.5 have run them in the past. Please let us know if you hear them by sending an e-mail to readoc@readoc.org . We will send them a thank you note. Your help is appreciated..

Thank you to all tutors who returned their completed Volunteer Assessment Surveys. What is FROC?

The Friends of READ/Orange County (FROC) is a 501 C-3 not-for-profit organization committed to the support of READ/Orange County through resource development, public awareness and recognition services for volunteers and learners. It operates through a Board of Directors and three standing committees. The recruitment of new members is the #1 priority goal.

The Resource Development Committee (RDC) strives to develop new resources, both people and financial. It recognizes the need to inform the people and companies in our communities about literacy, the need that exists, and how READ/OC is positively impacting our communities and changing lives.

The Recognition Activities Committee (RAC) of FROC plans and coordinates events that welcome, recognize, appreciate, and provide opportunities for learners, tutors, and other program participants to connect.. Members also assist the READ/OC Team with the set-up of training meetings and workshops.

The Membership Committee of FROC strives to recruit new members of the highest quality to meet the identified needs of the organization. Potential new members are invited to attend Committee and Board meetings so that they become familiar with the organization and the members can get to know them.
